NASCAR, after closely examining the engine in Ryan Newman's winning Modified, has stipped the win from the number 7NY team. While it was initially thought the car failed inspection due to a leaky gasket, that wasn't the case at all.
The engine, built by Earnhardt/Ganassi Racing, was found to have illegal gaskets containing shims. Whether car owner, Bono Manion, who is the crewchief on Jamie Mcmurray's EGR car number 1, was aware of the parts being in the engine is unclear.
What is clear, and swift, was NASCAR's penalty. Manion, and car chief Gary Putnam, have both been suspended for the remainder of the year from any NASCAR Touring Series events. This will certainly mean the absence of the 7NY team at both Bristol, and the next New Hampshire race.
